There’s never a dull moment at Cambridge Court Assisted Living. With a full calendar of social events, our residents always have something going on. If you visited our community this fall, you might have encountered one of our more interesting activities—a visit from nine University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) social work students.
As part of the university’s Aging Services Social Work course, students and their professor made multiple visits to Cambridge as part of an experiential learning program. Students were paired with residents for more than a dozen one-on-one meetings, where students could perform psychosocial assessments to practice their interpersonal skills and better understand the needs of the elderly.
“We’re always looking for ways to engage with the greater Kearney community, and this university program was a win-win,” said Cheryl White, Executive Director of Cambridge Court Assisted Living. “It gave students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in their studies, and it gave our residents the chance to make a meaningful contribution to society. Everyone loved the program.”
